Recently
computer monitor arm I discovered the value of monitoring Internet activity of my kids. Just like the rest of you, I had heard the threats of online predators, the peer cyber-bullying and, of course, the ever-so-present teenage immaturity. Because of all of this, I decided to install monitoring software.
Was I deciding to "spy" on my kids? No. I made the decision to be a proactive parent in today's net world. Yes, I did talk to my kids. They wouldn't tell me anything. Monosyllabic answers are a teen's best weapon. So I had to do my own research. I wasn't doing this to get the minute details on their life; I was doing it to make sure that what they were doing was all right - not dangerous.
So, I started searching A couple pages helped me pick this one title called PC Pandora. I highly advise checking out their blog, which is what I came across first. There were a few others (I listed below) as well. I decided to give them a try on two fronts: was this what I was looking for, and did I want to see the information I obtained.
In short: best decision ever.
PC Pandora is monitoring software. It basically records all content on your computer. The primary function is a top-rated screen capture, that literally takes pictures of everything that happens on your computer screen. Think of it as a TiVo for your PC. It also creates detailed files for IM chats and emails, has a weblog and keylogger, and keeps track of P-2-P files exchanged and programs run. It also includes standard web filters and program blocks. There is also an "IRIS" feature that will email a parent at work - very valuable to today's parents.
Having access to all this information, I had to walk that line of snooping too much information, and doing a spot-check to make sure they were all right. I am happy to report that the line was easier walked than thought. In addition, I found nothing out of the ordinary teenage curiosity/ random-surfing paths. Thus, I was able to breathe a sigh of relief.
Anyway, check out their website: www.pcpandora.com. Monitoring Internet activity is essential for parents today. One way or another you have to know what your kids are doing. PC Pandora focuses its power on the knowledge, rather than filtering content. It's really the best overall help you can get as a parent.
