We have a computer monitor arm serious fitness problem. Most people admit that they could loose a few extra pounds. People that want to be healthier by loosing fat and developing more muscle tone. The hard thing for people to realize is that working out actually gives you more energy. You probably have tried to do this get fit thing before and most likely were unable to form long lasting habits. It was almost a requirement for tri athletes to wear these devices.  The technology has come down drastically making it worthwhile and affordable for every day exercisers. Heart rate monitors are being used more and more in gyms and workout classes. This is because people can be more effective in their workouts. If you are going to spend an hour at they gym then why not get 100 percent out of your workout instead of 60 percent. It just makes sense.  The heart monitor watches can instantly tell you if you are hitting your target heart rate. It can also tell you how many calories you've burned which will help you reach your weight loss goal quicker.
Heart rate monitor watches have been made very user friendly. With one touch programming, you can make sure you are getting the most out of your workout. If you get one of the more advanced watches, you can even track your progress on the computer.  The heart rate monitor really enables people to know how to get the most out of their workouts and track progress. No longer is the weight scale the only way to measure effectiveness of your workouts.  Having a heart monitor is not a substitute for having a personal trainer but it's a lot cheaper and can give you amazing results. 
One of the downfalls of these watches is that the battery life can be limited. Polar heart monitor watches have to be sent in to get their battery replaced by an authorized dealer.  This is defiantly a pain but at least battery replacement only needs to be done once a year.
